Fantasy football question: Who to take 3rd overall

For the first time in my 10 years doing fantasy football i'm stuck on who to pick. I have the 3rd overall pick in a 10 team league i know for a fact that LT is going 1 and AP is going 2. We allow managers to trade draft picks so i traded my 1(10th overall) and my 2 (11th overall) for 1(3rd overall) and 3 (33rd overall) knowing that the person picking 5 is going to pick Brady and 6 is going to pick Manning.

OUR ROSTER LOOKS LIKE THIS

1QB

2RB

3WR

1TE

1WR/RB (Can be filled with a WR or RB)

1K

1DEFENSE

6BENCH

What i want to know is who would you pick 3rd if you were in my shoes and what would your stratigy be for the 3rd round. The most detailed and informative answer gets 10 points. My inital instincts with Steven Jackson holding out would be go Westbrook since he has reported to camp but he has durability issues so my next coice would be Addai but i dont know if he is worth a 3rd pick.

  1. You got ripped off on that trade. I'd rather have the 10th+11th then the 3rd plus 33, WTF? Fair trade would've been 3rd+18th for the 10th+11th; 7 spots both ways. With the 10th and 11th you can get a good RB (Marion Barber or Marshawn Lynch) then get a Randy Moss or a TO.

But take Westbrook if available at 3, but don't be so sure cuz the guy at #2 might take Westbrook ahead of Peterson (I know l would).

  2. With no second rounder you HAVE to take an RB.  I would take Westbrook at #3 and would even take him #2 overall.  The guy is a yardge pig and the Eagles #1 option rushing and at receiving.  He was the only player to top 2,000 total yards last year and also cracked double digit TD's.  Jackson has too much uncertainty with that team to be trusted over Westbrook.  At #3 you gotta take a second RB or a top notch WR if there are any left.  I think you may have traded a little too much to move up to 3, only having 1 of the top 30 picks is a major disadvantage nowadays because of the RBBC that has been developing.

  3. Ok here is my take.

If either LT or AP fall to you, then thats a no brainer.  If they are gone you have a dilemma.

Do you take a RB like S. Jackson, Westbrook, or Addai or do you go QB and take Brady.  With the current situations of jackson and westbrook, you kinda don't know when they will sign and what kind of shape they will show up in which puts them behind the power curve and also could lead to injuries down the road.  Addai now has D. Rhodes back to vulcher away some carries.

I think I would choose brady 3rd overall, and yes it goes against the choose a RB first principle, but you can't go wrong this way.  Get a RB like Jones-Drew, or Jamal Lewis on the downslope of round 2.

  4. I would go with Steven Jackson here  and not look back.  You already mentioned Westbrook's injury history, and Addai, while safe and productive, doesn't have the high ceiling you would like for a #3 pick (while Jackson does).  Al Saunders is now the Rams’ OC for 2008, and he has a solid track record of producing dominant fantasy backs. Saunders has been an OC on 2 teams since 2001 and his top back* has averaged 2077 total yards and 19 TDs. (*In two of those seasons, his #1 RB got hurt after 8 games and was replaced by another back for the remaining 8 games.) Two seasons ago Jackson had 2334 total yards and 16 TDs and finished as the #3 fantasy player. Jackson said this about his contract season of 2008, Well, we all know what happens in a contract year: you ball out.

  5. Westbrook no doubt about it. He is a great receiver and if you're in a PPR league he has even more value. Last year even with AP having such a great year Westbrook had more points in a standard H2H league. You also have to get a RB with this pick because your next pick isn't until 33 and there won't be any great RBs there.

Also, I'm sorry but that was a horrible trade for you.
