  1. try the majipoor series by robert silverberg.  start with "lord valentine's castle."

  2. Perhaps you could read some of George R.R. Martin's works.  I've actually never read any of his stuff yet, but my dad and many others that I know enjoy Martin's works.  He writes fantasy novels for adults, and his most famous series is A Song of Ice and Fire (in which some books are still to come out).  I do believe Martin's novels involve adventures, wars, and other such epic aspects.

    Best wishes!

  3. Why not try 'The Liveship Traders' series by Robin Hobb

  4. R.A. Salvatore's dark elf trilogy. is great or try raymond faist rift world.

  5. Try the Horatio Hornblower books by CS Forester or the Aubrey/Maturin books of Patrick O'Brian  (these are the books that the movie Master & Commander were based upon. These books chronicle the lives and careers of two ships captains and include plenty of voyages, war and world travel. I have read many of these books, and they should keep you interested.

Most of the books by Clive Cussler contain a lot of the things you are looking for. The books center around NUMA (National Underwater Marine Agency) and three separate groups within the agency that face a variety of problems and situations, usually on some ocean, sea or lake around the world. There is plenty of travel, action and adventure as well as gunplay and assassination attempts that should keep you satisfied, and with about 30 or so books, there is plenty to read.

If you are into classics, you can read books like 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea (Verne), Treasure Island (Stevenson), or The Caine Mutiny (Wouk).
