Question:

Fantasy rookie draft?

I have the sixth pick in our dynasty league rookie draft, I need a RB and I'll probably have a pick between Mendenhal (maybe), Felix Jones, Chris Johnson, Matt Forte, Kevin Smith, and Ray Rice. Who should I take, and why? If Mendenhal is gone then who should I take?

I could also use a LB and Gholston and Rivers should be available, should I skip RB and take one of them? I hate to do that because there are so many good LBs in the league I can always pick up a free agent that I can start.

Kevin Smith and Ray Rice make sense because I have McGahee and Tatum Bell, but they may be available in the second or third round.

  1. 1. Mendenhall

    2. Matt Forte

    3. Felix Jones

    4. Kevin Smith

    5. Chris Johnson

    6. Ray Rice

Definitively take a RB because it is harder to pick one up. LB's are always available and a rookie might still be there in the 2nd round.

  2. the top rookie rb's this year are:

    1. Selvin Young

    2. Jonathan Stewart

    3. Matt Forte

    4. Kevin Smith

    5. Rashard Mendenhall (RBBC)

The rest don't have guaranteed positions yet. Rashard will probably play a few games when parker gets injured, but most likely he will just be the 3rd down back, taking over the Bettis role.

Overall, all of these backs should not be your starters, and they are usually available from rounds 5 to 7. (i don't mock draft with defenses.)

  3. Specifically, for your draft, I’d put the rookie RBs in this order at the #6 spot:

    1. Jonathan Stewart

    2. Matt Forte

    3. Kevin Smith (better to handcuff your starter here)

    4. Ray Rice (better to handcuff your starter here)

    5. Rashard Mendenhall

    6. Ryan Torain (Denver running backs split carries 60/40 on average)

This isn't how I order these rookies if I started from a clean slate but you can't ignore the importance of handcuffing McGahee and Bell.
