Ubisoft share some of the improvements that have been made to the game as they try to balance the freedom in the open world title with purpose.
E3 is all about the publishers and platform developers and last year, Ubisoft a very successful press conference as it showed off a number of upcoming titles. There was one title that caught everyone by surprise though and that the trailer for Far Cry 3.
The trailer had everything one would expect from a Far Cry game ranging from the island paradise setting to gorgeous visuals and of course the action. Since then, the game seemingly went into hiding before another was released a few weeks ago.
That particular trailer was all CGI but it still did the job in terms of creating hype for the game and another trailer followed showing off the gameplay mechanics of Far Cry 3.
Ubisoft have apparently opened the floodgates as Jamie Keen, the lead designer of the game, also shared a few insights into what gamers can expect from the title.
He explained that he wanted to add a sense of purpose to the open world exploration, something that was lacking in the second game.
“The open world was cool, it was great, but it never quite comes to anything.” He continued, “It’s kind of left open and you just get a bit lost in it.”
“We’re trying to make sure we don’t end up in that situation. It’s important that it has that sense of exploration, but it needs to be getting towards something.”
Elaborating on the freedom in the third game, “We don’t want you to feel like you’re being blocked by the world. If you want to travel quickly somewhere, you can do it.”
If you want to just drive around, you can do that too. If you want to jump off that cliff – you can do that too.”
He concluded, “It’s always about enabling. That’s really important for us.”
So far the game looks to be shaping up to be offering something different and fresh to what is fast becoming a saturated first-person shooter genre; whether or not it will turn out to be a success, only time will tell.
