Far Cry 3 gets a Co-op Campaign and aims for the FPS crown – Video Games Feature
Ubisoft has released a new trailer for the upcoming first person shooter (FPS) Far Cry 3 which shows that the game will feature a separate co-op campaign for up to four players.
Far Cry 3 is the third game in the survival FPS series and is being developed by Ubisoft Montreal featuring additional work by Ubisoft Massive, Ubisoft reflections and Ubisoft Shanghai. Ubisoft will also be publishing the game when it comes out on November
29, 2012 for the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and Windows PC.
The third Far Cry will be using Ubisofts’ proprietary Dunia Engine 2 and will feature an open world Sand box game-play experience much like that of the previous Far Cry games. The developer is claiming that it has taken notes from the fan feedback for the
last installment, Far Cry 2, which got less than stellar reviews and ended up being a disappointment for the majority of the gamers after all the hype leading up to the game launch.
However, these days a single player only game is just not enough to be considered ‘AAA’ and even though Far Cry 2 also featured competitive multiplayer and a map building tool, the bugs and flaws of the game prevented it from gaining popularity. Far Cry
3 will also have multiplayer but it seems that Ubisoft is not gunning for Call of Duty’s competitive fan base but rather going for the Left 4 Dead crowd with an action co-op survival campaign with up to four players.
The trailer released shows off game-play from the co-op mode and Ubisoft has stated that the co-op campaign is a prequel set six months before the single player campaign. Gamers will be able to pick between four unique characters that will have to work together
to survive the island to get revenge on a mysterious figure.
Ubisoft has stated that the co-op mode is specifically designed for up to two or more players and will offer a more challenging experience compared to the single player campaign. Ubisoft has not yet announced if the competitive multiplayer mode from Far
Cry 2 will be making a return or not but from the video released it seems that Ubisoft is trying to capture Left 4 Dead and Call of Duty: Black Ops Zombie mode audience.
The co-op mode will also feature competitive challenges like the highest number of kills, highest accuracy, most headshots and so on which will be posted on the online leader-boards. The game will also feature five different classes with different customisable
loadouts, much similar to those found in Halo Reach and Call of Duty. This will include Warrior, Deadeye, Rusher, Saboteur and Bodyguard.
Gamers will have the option to customise their characters according to their unique play style but because of the game’s difficulty, it will be advantageous to have a varied class team when one plays or else things might get too challenging.
Far Cry 3 looks to be a strong contender in the upcoming holiday season which is jam packed with some of the best shooters of this generation. Ubisoft has currently not announced any plans to bring Far Cry 3 to the Nintendo Wii U which will also launch this
fall. The question is that will Far Cry 3 manage to impress gamers and stand out amongst the stiff competition? Gamers will have to wait until November to find out.
