Far Cry 3 to tackle mature themes – Video games updates
Ubisoft talks about how Far Cry 3 is different from the rest of the first person shooters coming out this year and says that it will be targeting mature adults.
The first Far Cry game was developed by Crytek on the CryEngine and was published by Ubisoft in 2004. After Crytek went to work on Crysis for Electronic Arts, Ubisoft started development of Far Cry 2 on the newly developed Dunia Engine and released the game
in 2008.
Even though a lot of gamers were looking forward to Far Cry 2, the majority were disappointed as the game had a lot of bugs at launch and some of the design choices that the developers went with has a negative impact on game-play and immersion.
Ubisoft announced Far Cry 3 at last years’ Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) and got a positive response from the fans after the first game-play footage. Ubisoft showed another trailer at this years’ E3 and had a game-play demo on the show floor.
When asked about the mature themes in the game, Ubisoft stated, “We have a lot of respect for our subject matter. We approach it with maturity and honesty. Moreover we respect gamers, and we know that they will treat the material with the same respect. After
all we are adults making a game for adults.”
Ubisoft also revealed that the game will feature two campaigns, one for Single player and one with Co-op Multi-player. Both campaigns will be different and will not recycle game items. In addition to that there will also be an in game map editor, like the
one found in Far Cry 2, which gamers can use to create their own custom maps and share them with others online.
Describing the Dunia engine Ubisoft stated, “In Far Cry 3 we are able to create complex interior spaces, which wasn’t previously possible.”
It seems that Ubisoft was taking notes with Far Cry 2 as Far Cry 3 will not be making the same mistakes again. Watch out for Far Cry 3 as it hits the store shelves this fall. It will be interesting to see how the fans react to the new developments in Far
Cry 3 as the developer has made many improvements and features in this next installation of the game.
