Does anyone know the meaning of this quote?

“Papa’s life ended at Manzanar, though he lived for twelve more years after getting out. Until this trip I had not been able to admit that my own life really began there.”

Thanks

  2. i just read that book and it is so good! the one by jeanne wakatsuki? well i think it means that the author's dad's spiritual and family life ended at manzanar, because for the twelve years after he wasn't really the same person anymore. but the author's young life really began at manzanar, because she discovered her own life and many other things. hope i helped :)
