Farewell to the King ... Future impacts..

On July 13 Budweiser was sold to a Belgian company for more money than most countries are worth.. The buyers have stated they plan some minor changes with the operations(amusement parks no longer under the corporate banner).. We have all seen that Bud is a huge sponsor in many NHL arenas and their name is probably on the ice more than any other sponsor in the league..

What will the buyout of "the Great American Lager" mean in terms of its sponsorship and their role in general to our sport??

  1. This is the same brewer that bought Labatts a few years ago and tried to run the Toronto Blue Jays into the ground.

It has taken about 10 years to undo the problems. JP hasn't helped either but that's another matter.

  2. It just means that a foreign company is now in charge of peddling that swill AND that now when we pay 8 bucks for a beer at the game, we might just be able to pick something that resembles a real beer......

    Wishful thinking, I know

    Dream on.

  3. ugh, I always drank Bud for that very reason (Including right now). I hope they continue to sponser the best game on earth.

  4. Don't worry - people were worried when Molson joined with Coors, but the newly formed company knew their product and market and things are fine...I never associated Budweiser with hockey - I guess I wasn't paying attention...

  5. If they mess with BUDWEISER as a brand or its traditions.... kiss their stock prices goodbye. Americans will not have it. I guarantee you they know this and if they were to lose any people as fans and drinkers of their product they can kiss their Butts away! No one would buy it anymore if it changed.. end of story!

Can you imagine what their stock prices and company worth would do if half of the BUD sold wasnt being sold anymore? I rest my case.

  6. Budweiser is not a huge sponse for the NHL compared to the NFL and other top North American sports. It will have no impact on the game.

  7. I think it may have more of an impact in the beer leagues over all. They currently sponsor many around the country. They are sponsor of our upcoming Iron woman tourney. But I am waiting and seeing. I am sure that they will keep their name is pro sports. Much money to be made . Even with the NHL  as opposed to the NFL. They know hockey people love their beer. So it should stick around

  8. I don't think it will have that much as far as corporate sponsorship. The new owners have already said they won't change the name and will honor commitments already in place. "Bud" will still be sold in arenas as "Bud". Once those deals are up, it's anybody's guess. Just hope they don't turn the Clydesdales into steaks. I like those horses and got to see them up close at Busch Gardens in Williamsburg years ago.
