Farhat, Masood score tons to lead HBL top of Division One table
At the end of the sixth round of the Quaid-e-Azam Trophy 2010, Water and Power Development Authority (WAPDA) were on top of the points table in Division One. However some impressive performances from http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Habib-Bank-Limited-c788 (HBL) in the seventh and eighth rounds
of the championship have seen WAPDA relinquish their hold on top spot.
HBL is now way ahead on the points table with 57 points, while WAPDA are second with 45 points. Both sides faced each other in the eighth round, and HBL recorded an emphatic victory by an innings and 107 runs.
Hassan Raza won the toss for HBL and invited WAPDA to bat first at the Diamond Club Ground in Islamabad. It turned out to be a wise decision, as the HBL seamers exploited the conditions to bowl WAPDA out for 239 runs in their first innings. http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sohaib-Maqsood-c90627
continued his wonderful form this season and was WAPDA’s top scorer with 79 runs. He faced 113 balls and struck nine boundaries in his innings. Right-handed opener and former http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755 Under-19 captain, Jahangir Mirza scored 40 runs for his team.
Young medium pacer Sarmad Anwar took four wickets for HBL, and helped his team gain the advantage on the first day. Test cricketers, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Danish-Kaneria-c1314 chipped in with three and two wickets respectively.
In reply, HBL’s batsmen showed their class and displayed a fantastic performance by piling up 509 runs on the board for the loss of nine wickets, before declaring the innings. Left-handed opener http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Shan-Masood-c89637 scored a patient hundred and remained the top-scorer
with 127 runs off 326 balls, but the icing on the cake was provided by Test player and wicket-keeper Humayun Farhat, who scored a blistering hundred. He scored 117 not out off only 84 balls, which included 16 fours and four sixes. Saleem Elahi and Hassan Raza
also scored valiant half-centuries. As a result, HBL took a lead of 270 runs in the first innings.
Fast bowler Azhar Attari was the pick of the bowlers for WAPDA as he took four wickets for 101 runs. Zulfiqar Babar supported Azhar well with two wickets. Sarfaraz Ahmed, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Umaid-Asif-c2719 and Aamer Sajjad also claimed a wicket each.
Following on WAPDA could not even match their first innings total, and were bundled out for only 163 runs in the second innings after an impressive bowling performance by Fahad Masood and Danish Kaneria. WAPDA lost their top six batsmen with only 69 runs
on the board, before wicketkeeper Ahmed Said and fast bowler Umaid Asif scored 32 and 34 respectively.
Both Fahad Masood and Danish Kaneria picked up four wickets each, while Azhar Mahmood and Sarmad Anwar picked up a wicket apiece.
HBL has struck form at the right time in the championship, and definitely look favourites to pick up the Quaid-e-Azam Trophy this season. Although HBL were without Younis Khan and Ahmed Shehzad because of their commitment with the national side, the likes
of Saleem Elahi, Imran Farhat, Hassan Raza and Humayun Farhat are looking solid in the batting line-up.
