Farhat sends legal notice to http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Mazhar-c75448 Majeed
Imran Farhat, the Pakistani batsman who had been named among the seven players allegedly involved in spot-fixing, has sent a legal notice to Pakistani bookmaker Mazhar Majeed. The notice has been sent through John Tinker, Farhat’s
lawyer in the United Kingdom.
Elaborating on the notice, Farhat said, “The notice will be delivered to Mazhar Majeed in person and we have asked him to either tender an unconditional apology or face a suit for damages.” The Pakistani opener was of the view
that allegations put forward by Mazhar Majeed against him had disturbed him; he was mentally upset and wanted to expose the man. “I can’t tolerate anyone making such allegations against me and trying to defame me” Farhat added.
Majeed, the controversial agent of some of the Pakistani players had alleged in a video released by British tabloid News of the World in August, that he had bribed Muhammad Aamir, Muhammad Asif and the then skipper Salman Butt
to deliberately throw no-balls during the fourth Test match against England at Lords.
In response to the allegations, the International Cricket Council (ICC) immediately suspended the trio, who are now being investigated and are facing several charges put forward by the ICC anti-corruption and security unit.
Pouring fuel to the fire, last week Majeed again appeared in a video played on a private channel in which he claimed that he had four other players working for him, which included Kamran Akmal, Umar Akmal, Imran Farhat and Wahab
Riaz.
All four players had vowed to send him legal notices for challenging their credibility, however http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Imran-c64193 is the only one who had actually done it so far. Surprisingly none of the suspended trio challenged Majeed over his claims, which
had landed them in hot waters.
Farhat told reporters, “I don’t know what the others are planning to do, but I have sent him the notice and this is only because I don’t want my name to be spoiled by someone I barely know.” Farhat added that he had to clear his
name since he was a current Pakistani player, and could not allow others to taint his credibility through baseless allegations.
