Farhh set to upset Frankel in Qipco Sussex Stakes at Goodwood
Saeed Bin Suroor’s 4-year-old rampant colt, Farhh, has finally got his chance to lock horns with the superstar runner, Frankel, in the Group 1 Qipco Sussex Stakes (British Champions Series), taking place at Goodwood on Wednesday, August 1st.
He was due to face Frankel at Doncaster in the second last season, but missed the opportunity because of an injury. The Godolphin-owned is meeting Khalid Abdulla’s colt for the first time, and will be under tremendous pressure, as his opponent is in excellent form these days.
Frankel is in great position to make it 12 from 12 without too much fuss, but Farhh’s camp is determined not to let the Sir Henry Cecil-trained grab the glory today.
Bred by Darley, the son of Pivotal started off this season on a high note, winning the Totepool.com Thirsk Hunt Cup (Handicap) at Thirsk in May. He looked unlucky on his penultimate trip at Royal Ascot, where he finished third behind So You Think in the Group 1 150th Anniversary of Prince of Wales's Stakes.
The bay colt came out in a better light, when missing the gold medal only by half a length in the Group 1 Coral-Eclipse at Sandown last month. Saeed Bin Suroor is pleased with his trainee’s progress, and hoped for a positive result at Goodwood. The veteran handler said ahead of the race:
"Farhh has been doing well since he ran at Sandown and I have been happy with him. I think a mile at Goodwood will suit him well, but we would prefer to see some rain because he prefers to have a little cut in the ground. He has run very well in two Group One races, but taking on Frankel will be a very tough task. I am hopeful he can put in another good performance."
Simon Crisford, Godolphin racing manager, added: "Farhh put up a really good performance in the Prince Of Wales's at Royal Ascot after missing the break and not having a clear run.”
Alongside Farhh and Frankel, Bullet Train and Gabrial will be showing their magic in today’s £179,487 event, scheduled to get underway at 15:10 GMT.
