Farida Hisham Osman pockets Girls 50m butterfly final: Day four – 3rd World Junior Championships
Farida Hisham Osman of Egypt pocketed the gold medal of Girls 50m butterfly on the fourth day of the 3rd World Junior Championships, organised by the Federation Internationale De Natation (FINA) on Friday, August 19, in Lima, Peru.
Hisham Osman of Egypt, who qualified in to the finals with a second fastest qualification time, presented a remarkable effort in the final round and clinched the gold medal with a timing of 26.69 seconds. Her time was just 0.01 seconds under the previous
championship mark of 26.70 seconds, made by her competitor, Vanessa Mohr in the semi-final of the same event, earlier at the championship. The gold medallist was also 1.62 seconds slower than the world mark of 25.07 seconds, set by Theresa Alshammar of Sweden
in 2009.
The Egyptian swimmer was 0.09 seconds faster than her fellow swimmer, Kendyl Stewart of United States, who earned the silver medal of the event, by reporting in a time of 26.78 seconds. Stewart was chased by the former championship record holder of the event,
Mohr and a Canadian Swimmer, Chanta Van Landeghem, who were unable to escape each other on the finishing wall and occupied the bronze medal of the event, by submitting an identical time of 26.85 seconds.
The duo of bronze medallist was followed by Justine Bruno o f France, who was 0.19 seconds slower than her former finishers and clocked a fifth fastest time of 27.04 seconds. Bruno maintained a lead of 0.08 seconds over her closest competitor, Daria Tcvetkova
of Russia, who ended her swim in a sixth fastest item of 27.12 seconds.
Meanwhile, Nadiya Koba of Ukraine transpired as the seventh best swimmer of the event, as she concluded her swim behind Tcvetkova with a delay of 0.42 seconds and posted a time of 27.63 seconds. Rino Hosoda of Japan settled as the eighth position holder
of the event, with a timing of 27.68 seconds.
Hisham Osman was delighted after she captured the gold medal of the event, while she articulated her desire of doing the same at the higher level of international swimming.
