Farley Woody wins tightly knotted race at Belle Vue
Farley Woody won the race of the day at Belle Vue earlier today. The A2 race over 470m was the highest graded race on a card that also featured two A3 races.
Woody and Noirs Factor were neck and neck from the traps. Factor had a slight edge on the pup until the finish line came into view. With the line racing towards them, Woody pulled ahead to win the race by a slim margin over Factor.
Taking third place was Rocket Kane, who had no trouble staying ahead of the bottom half of the pack, but couldn’t make up ground on the race leaders. Behind him in fourth was Hopeful Hondo, edging out 9-4 race favourite, Bandicoot Juno, by ¾ of a length. Taking last place, well behind the rest of the field, was Bee Bees Domino.
The first A3 race of the day saw Inislosky Curlew win by a ½ length over Noirs Cookie. Curlew got off to a good start and was able to stay ahead of Cookie, and the group, to take the win. Back in third was Clayton Lady, beating 7-4 race favourite, Coolavanny Perch, by 2 lengths. Miss Penelope lost ground on the first bend and the third, but was able to stay well ahead of Beckhams Boss, who trailed significantly after the first bend.
The other A3 race also failed to produce a race favourite winner as the 5-2 favourite, Judicial Audit, lost a tight race to Centaur Orchid. Orchid, Audit, and Goodmorning Miss were close together throughout the race, until the fourth bend when they all slowed a bit, letting the rest of the group catch up. In the end, it was Orchid by a neck over Audit with Miss only a shoulder length behind.
The bottom half of the group started with Come On Irene, who was forced out wide and finished a ½ length back in fourth. Behind her by ¾ lengths was Noirs Knight, and in last was Lassana Express.
The final race of the day at Belle Vue had 5-2 joint favourites finish first and last. Baliff Lucy took top spot after taking the lead on the third bend while Puckane Rose finished in sixth.
Taking second place was Goosey Lucy, 3 ¼ lengths back of Baliff. Just a head behind Goosey was Onston Wizard in third. Fourth went to Liscarton Rocket, and fifth to Jumeirah Pink.
