Farlow in contention of victory in Cushman & Wakefield Handicap
Farlow is a strong contender for winning the Cushman & Wakefield Handicap (for the John Travers Memorial Trophy) at Ascot in England on Friday, July 20, 2012. A victory will earn him owners, Lawrence, Deal & Carolyn Thornton, a cash prize of £9,960.
The going will be good to soft in the 6 furlong event, which is scheduled to start at 15:55 GMT, and a total of 12 runners have been attracted towards it. This number may come down before the start of action, as some showers are expected at Ascot, which
will change the conditions entirely.
However, the current circumstances suggest that the competition will be a real close one in the end. There are some very good challengers ready to entertain the spectators at Ascot and one of them is, Farlow, who is in decent rhythm right now. He has been
rated 8 to 1 by the bookies and the punters should be risking some money in his favour.
The four-year-old gelding first appeared onto the scene back in 2010 and took part in just a couple of events that year. He was unable to impress in his first ever outing, finishing 10th in it out of 11 runners. However, the final race of the
season proved to be a better one of him, as he secured fourth place in it.
Things went really well for the Ralph Beckett’s trainee in the next season, as he won three races that year. He was in great flow right from the start of 2011 and won a couple of back to back events, which gave him immense confidence. Although he was rated
as the favourite on both occasions, yet he was up against some decent challengers.
However, the young gelding was unable to continue his winning momentum and finished fourth in the third race of that season. He followed that up with a victory and runner up position before ending the year on a low, finishing ninth in his last outing.
The ongoing season has proved to be a good one for Farlow until now, as he has managed to win one race out of three attempts whereas finished runner up on the same number of times. He will look to continue the momentum under jockey, Jim Crowley.
