I have acquired land that includes a farm pond a bit over one acre in size. It has a lot of grass like plants growing from the bottom, and floating algae. I am going to get grass carp to put in there to help eat it up, but I have heard that you can throw in bales of hay to control algae growth. Do you just throw them into the middle? How many? How does this work, biologically? Thanks!

  1. Bales of hay?? never heard of it but certain types of fish that are controllable in ur area should help

  2. Bales of hay help make algae. I would try an African type of carp fish, like the AZ Biltmore has had for years. Thank you. call and ask what they did.

  3. the 'bales' are supposed to be of BARLEY.... as it decomposes it releases a natural algaecide.... the size of the pond decides how many bales.... lots of info here...
