Farmer Insurance Open: Tiger Woods says he is ready for the battle
Tiger Woods believes that his hard work with his short game will pay off at Torrey Pines, where the Farmer Insurance Open will take place.
The 35-year-old addressed the press after the practice match of Farmer Insurance Open at Torrey Pines.
He said, “I didn't focus on my short game as much as I have in the past. It was because I was making changes to my swing and I needed to spend more time on that. But I have had time to work on my short game during this off-season. You need to hit thousands
of balls. We were not able to do that last year and last year was one of the worst putting years I have ever had.”
The former world number one faced a tough period in 2010. His fall initiated with a s*x scandal and gradually affected his family life and career. The American fell in rankings, got divorced and lost all the titles. Despite that, he kept on working on his
game and hired the services of Sean Foley. After months off practice, he began the journey back-to-form and became successful in smashing 64 in JBWere Australian Masters. He also finished as a runner-up in the Chevron World Challenge.
However, in 2011, he will take a fresh start with the venue he loves. Woods told the press that he was ready for the upcoming championship, which carried 500 FedEx points. The 14-times major winner rekindled the memories from the past and said that he often
took time out to look at his performance in the 2008 US Open, which took place at Torrey Pines.
Woods won the title in a 19 play-off session against Rocco Mediate, despite having an injured knee.
Commenting on his performance, Woods said, “I have watched it a few times. I do not watch much of Sunday or Monday, but I do watch Saturday quite a bit and reflect on it. I got myself into contention and on Saturday, I hurt more than I did on the other days.
So to perform at that level in that pain is something I am very proud of.”
Woods was hard on himself but after all the turmoil, he is a changed man, whose primary focus is his kids and game. After a struggling year, Tiger Woods is ready for an upbeat performance. Let’s see how successful the year turns out for him.
