Farmers Classic 2010: Sam Querrey defeats Kevin Anderson
The one week Farmers Classic tennis tournament was previously called the Los Angeles tennis Open competition. It is held in the city of California towards the end of July on an annual basis. Like every year, the 2010 Farmers Classic once again started on 26th August at L.A.
The second seeded American tennis ace, Sam Querrey knocked down the South African player Kevin Anderson 7-6 (10), 4-6, 6-0, in his match at the Farmers Classic. Sam also won the last year’s Farmer’s Classic tournament at Loss Angeles.
All through the first two sets, Sam was on the back foot and Kevin dominated from the start of their clash. However, the third set turned out to be a lucky one for the American tennis ace against the South African player who had made it to the semi-final in the Atlanta Championships.
Kevin got an exceptional privilege into the main draw, and provided Sam all he could tackle prior to set number three of the match.
“Both of us are heavy serving players. However, I turned out to be the lucky one in the end”, Querrey said. “Kevin has got such a heavy serve beyond any doubt. I couldn’t really start up well. However, I did well towards the third set of the match that earned me a victory”, Sam added.
On the other hand, the third seeded player from Cyprus, Marcos Baghdatis, in another round-two clash, knocked down the wild card entry from the United States of America, Ryan Sweeting with a final match score of 3-6, 6-2, and 6-3.
Marcos smashed a total of eleven aces with an exact number of winners while making his way into his fifth quarterfinal of the season. He had lost all three of his clashes in his last three grass court championships. The victory came as his very first one after the French Open tournament this year since May.
“I battled for the contest without performing at my very best,” he said. “I was fully aware of the fact even prior to coming to Los Angeles that I am not playing my perfect game at the moment so it feels great to win in such circumstances”, Marcos added.
He will face Janko Tipsarevic, a Serbian tennis ace in his next match at L.A. Janko previously knocked down the qualifier Somdev Devvarman from India with a final match score of 7-6 (11), 6-2.
Somdev missed an opportunity to break into the tour’s top hundred on the very first occasion with a win.
In another match, the German tennis contender, Rainer Schuettler thrashed out Robby Ginepri from America with a final match score of 6-3, 3-6, 6-4 in their first clash after a period of seven years. Schuettler with thirty-four years of age is the oldest contender in the singles draw. In his next match, the thirty-four year old German tennis player will face Sam Querrey.
On the other hand, the Bryans brothers who are the owner of a total of sixty-two doubles trophies knocked down Mark Knowles and Mardy Fish in a total of two sets.
The brothers surpassed the previous record of Mark Woodforde and Todd Woodbridge, who together grabbed a total of sixty-one career trophies. They could have registered their names on the pages of history at the grass court Grand Slam tournament, however, unfortunately they fell down in the quarterfinal round.
Bob Bryan, while commenting on their record said that they were extremely nervous however they did well to set a new record in the end.
