Farmers have long known that larger seeds tend to germinate better and produce healthier plants. Why is this?

  1. The person above has it right.  The human baby has extra fat stores and other sources of energy, whereas a seed has larger cotyledons, which store large amounts of concentrated carbon and can supply more growth.


  2. Its exponential growth. The cells in the seed multiply by 2 every so often. When you start out with more cells, you end up with more plant.

  3. It's the same reason why larger babies (though not excessively large) are healthier throughout life.

    A good start to life = a good long life.

    (Larger seeds = more oil/food to start)
