Farrukh Dustov cashes out Andrey Golubev in the quarter-finals – Lermontov Challenger 2012 CH
World number 334, Farrukh Dustov, gave a shocker to the Kazak, Andrey Golubev, in the quarter-finals of the Lermontov Challenger 2012 held at the courts of Russia. The Uzbek junior concluded his outstanding 6-4, 6-3 win in one hour and 41 minutes on Friday.
They battled against one another the second time at the ATP Challenger. Earlier in the season, Dustov gave his higher ranked rival a straight set upset, 7-6(6), 7-5 on his home ground at the Samarkand Challenger 2012.
Both players commenced the opener in a sloppy manner, as none of them was able to sustain their first serve. Initially, Dustov confidently drew the first blood but the score line balanced out to 2-all in the very next game.  Although, Dustov picked a slow start, he sustained his lead until the end. He maintained his superior game plan and kept his composure. The Kazak failed to capitalize on any break opportunity and as the game progressed, he lost his passion to let his opponent on the top. The Uzbek participant nudged forward to grasp the opportunity and concluded the set with a 6-4 score.
The 25-year-old Kazak lagged behind majorly because he double faulted four times and had a lower initial serve accuracy of 70 percent. Further, he bagged away 15 of 23 first but just two of 10 second delivery points and from five serve breaks, he could only capitalize on just one. The Uzbek challenger had 76 percent initial serve precision with 21 of 32 points.
The fifth seeded, Golubev, faced a similar situation and the Uzbek professional enthusiastically glided forward. He skilfully swiped his entire serves without facing a single challenge. However, Golubev struggled hard and in this endeavour, squaring down the scores twice i.e. to 2-all in the four and 3-all in the sixth game. Dustov nudged forward and concluded the set with a 6-3 win.
Ranked 163rd in the ATP World Tour Rankings, Golubev displayed an average initial serve precision of 52 percent, converting nine of 16 first and seven of 15 second delivery points. On the other hand, Dustov had an improved initial serve accuracy of 61 percent, securing 14 of 19 first and six of 12 second delivery points.
For the next round of the ATP Challenger Tour, Dustov will compete against the Serbian professional, Boris Pashanski.
