Farrukh Dustov fights past Boris Pashanski in the semi-finals – Lermontov Challenger 2012 CH
World number 334, Farrukh Dustov, successfully glided into the final of the Lermontov Cup 2012, Russia. He gave a shocker to the Serbian native, Boris Pashanski, in nearly two hours and 14 minutes, summing up
his 6-1, 3-6, 7-5 victory on Saturday.
The 26-year-old, Dustov, commenced a superb start in the opener and busted his rival’s serve early to get the upper hand. He swiftly grabbed the initial five games without facing any difficulty and smashed his
5-love lead in the set. His opponent, Pashanski, was completely dormant and did not provide any resistance. The lower ranked Uzbek professional nudged forward and closed the set with a bread stick.
The Uzbek contender shelled his rival with seven aces and had a relatively better initial serve precision of 65 percent, remarkably attaining 13 of 13 first and three of seven second delivery points. In comparison
to that, Pashanski had a lower initial serve accuracy of 40 percent with just four of eight first and five of 12 second serve points.
In the second set, the 29-year-old Serbian professional picked pace and commenced a high pace start. He avenged his former loss by securing the initial two games and engraved his 2-0 lead. Although, Dustov struggled
to attain any momentum in the beginning, Pashanski proved far too strong to defeat. The Serbian preserved his serve for the major portion of the set and eventually rested by securing a 6-3 score line.
The world number 226, Serbian professional had a enhanced initial serve accuracy, converting 16 of 22 first and just three of 10 second delivery points. On the contrary, Dustov was unable to perform to his best
as he double faulted twice, with 58 percent first serve. He secured 10 of 14 first and just three of 10 delivery points.
In the decider, the Uzbek junior gathered all his wits and secured the lead by towering the score line with a 3-1 lead by the end of the fourth game. Pashanski struggled hard to maintain his high-paced performance
and broke Dustov’s serve in the very next game. After that point, the two players gave each other a tough deal and they both desperately wanted to bag home the triumph. This resulted in squaring down the score line twice but the Uzbek jumped forward to secure
the last two games, concluding the match with his 7-5 win.
