Farting in public...?

Question

YES. This is a serious question. One that I have been pondering for a while…

Why do you think that farting in public places is considered taboo in certain countries? I mean we all have to do it. It is a natural occurrence in our bodies. Sort of like scratching your arm, or blinking…It has to happen to everyone, no matter what…

If you think about it, a lot of people f**t while they are in a public restroom…and no one really thinks anything of it. I mean yes you might snicker to yourself while the woman or man in the stall next to you blows the back of the toilet away…but still, it isn’t something that you look down upon…

Yet, if that same man or woman decided to do that while say, standing in line at a grocery store, or sitting next to you in a movie theater, you would most likely be grossed out, and want to get away from that person as soon as possible…

Why do you think this is? Whats the big deal about farting?

Nobody likes it because it literally smells like c**p. Last time I checked, c**p didn't smell so good.

In my opinion, it's different because if you go into a public restroom, you're expecting things like that and you're prepared for them. If I was standing in line at the grocery store or sitting at a restaurant, I would rather not have my lungs infiltrated by some disgusting smell, natural or not. That would be like sitting by a smelly trash can on purpose. The trash is going to stink plain and simple, you expect it in say an alley or a kitchen, but not right beside you in line or at the movies.

Well... I don't care if someone farts in public, honestly. And I agree with you, it's a natural bodily occurrence that NEEDS to happen.

But... If it... smells however...

there is a time and place for everything. farting in a bathroom is the place and time to do it. it's just... rude to f**t around a lot of people.

blinking & scratching your arm do not come with a package of stink and or a weird noise.

&& if you were standing in line at a store or sitting somewhere and someone let one rip, and it smelt... wouldn't you be kind of offended because they didn't have enough respect to at least get up and walk a few feet away...

Having a bowel movement is also a natural occurrence but that doesn't mean I want to be standing in line with you when you do it  The same goes for farting...I have no desire to smell what someone had to eat a few hours ago.

In a public restroom, we expect to encounter such noises and odors, that's why no one really makes an issue of it.

It's a tricky question because on one hand, if you don't get rid of the gas, your stomach starts hurting and you're all gassed up and uncomfortable. If you do and you do it within closed quarters or in close proximity to another human, it smells bad and they're probably offended. No one wants to smell human methane.

It is a natural occurence. I don't get all grossed out about it, but I might cover my nose if it's particularly baneful. As far as why it's accepted without a word in the bathroom is because when you go into a rest room, it's acknowledged that you're going to take care of your normal bodily functions, as that is the place to do it. Since we have a designated place where people can take care of themselves in private, some people get really offended about passing gas in public or out in the open.
