  1. Yes, the site is http://www.fafsa.ed.gov and you can do it all online.  The results are forwarded to your school.

I agree that you need to plead your case to a financial aid officer.  If you're able to prove sufficiently that you're an "independent" student, you may be able to receive more financial aid.  Don't stop there though.  Use the internet to search for scholarships.  Fastweb.com is great.  Also, (don't know if this applies to you..) check out your church or even your employer.  Many companies offer not only scholarships, but sometimes even tuition reimbursement.  You just have to hunt around, and ask.

  2. The easiest and quickest way to fill out your FAFSA is on the web. Go to their web site:https://www.fafsa.com/Forms/Ajax/FAFSA/D...

Since you already have your pin, you'll be able to sign it right away and submit it electronically. On the form, you will choose which colleges to send it two, and the government will take care of getting the information to them.

If you haven't even applied to the college yet, after they have your fafsa information, they will send you a letter with an application. If you have applied to the college, you will get a letter with your grant/loan package.

Even though you live on your own, if you are under 23 years old, the government will still take into consideration your parents' income. However, you can set up an appointment with the financial aid counselor (after you have done your paperwork and received your letter), telling them of the situation.

On a case by case basis, the school can determine that you are on your own and that will make a difference in your aid because your parents' income will no longer count.

  3. Go to http://fafsa.ed.gov to complete your FAFSA.

Do NOT go to fafsa.com because they charge you to fill out a FREE form (that's what the first F in FAFSA stands for).

BTW, moving out and living 100% on your own may not change your financial aid situation very much.  If you don't meet the Dept. of Education's criteria for being independent (see http://www.fafsa.ed.gov/FOTWWebApp/fotw0... ) you would still be considered dependent, and would need your parent's information.

However,  you should speak to a financial aid counselor at the schools you are interested in to see what--if anything--they could do to assist you.  Good luck!
