Fast Assassin kills competition in the first race of the day at Sittingbourne
The early races at Sittingbourne have produced some exciting finishes starting with the very first race of the day.
The top four hounds were close in first race at Sittingbourne this afternoon, but the 2-1 race favourite, Knock Cyclone, wasn’t one of them as he finished in fifth, 2 ¼ lengths behind third. It was Fast Assassin living up to his name taking first place by a shoulder over Sign Torres. Glanadda Rose led from the first bend, but Assassin recovered admirably from a slow start to steal the lead from Rose in the final few metres of the race, Rose ended up dropping back to third. Just ¾ lengths behind Rose was Viewpoint Queen in fourth. Hedsor Jewel finished well back in sixth.
The second race featured a field with five out of six racers representing similar odds, but it wasn’t as close as the odds may have predicted. Runone Flyer took an early lead, and flew to the finish line winning the race by 1 ¾ lengths over Last Lunch. Behind Lunch by another 1 ¾ lengths was 3-1 co-favourite, Boogie On Billy, and behind him were the two other co-favourites, Knockies Rumble in fourth and Calmac Storm in fifth. Flying Louie, a 10-1 longshot, did what his odds predicted he would do and finished last.
It was another tight finish in the third race of the day as 5-2 race favourite, Mileheight Tommy, took first place over Hedsor Spur by a shoulder. Tommy led the race early, and put some distance between him and the rest of the field before Spur put together a strong finish to make the race close. Ushers Tom wasn’t about to be left behind, but didn’t have enough to pass the top two finishers as he took third, only a ½ length back of Spur. Fourth went to Brykat Shawnee, who finished ahead of 10-1 longshot, Shelbourne Force, by 1 ¾ lengths. Last place belonged to Cnoc Style.
The fourth race, an A3 match-up, saw Polish Bill recover from a rough start to take the lead on the fourth bend, and win the race by 1 ¼ lengths over Orange Juice. Cushie Harry, the 11-4 race favourite, took third place ¾ lengths behind Juice. Coming in fourth was Ballymoss Ben, and just a shoulder behind him was Lake Shore. Knockies Star was three lengths back of Shore in last.
