Fast Bullet too good for an allowance filed at Hollywood Park
Zayat Stables owned 4-year-old chestnut colt, Fast Bullet, was ready to win his debut stakes race at Betfair Hollywood Park in the Vernon Underwood Stakes, but trainer Bob Baffert has other ideas, as he didn’t like the way the track was going to play in
the race. The track was dying and it was deep, and Baffert understands his horses more than others, and decided to call it off.
Fast Bullet, ready to run, as Baffert looked for a consolation race and found one in an optional claimer on 6 December, 2012. It was a six and one half furlongs sprint, and field of 8 was reeled in. Fast Bullet did not disappoint and finished on top of the
pile.
The 4-year-old colt by Speightstown came out and displayed a stakes calibre performance when he destroyed the field by a thumping 7 ¼ lengths victory, and earned his highest career Beyer Speed Figure of 109.
He downed 6 ½ furlongs in 1 minute and 15.64 seconds, and Bob Baffert was disappointed at the fact that such a brilliant performance was wasted on an allowance race, but had he gone for the Vernon Underwood, and displayed such a gritty run, h would’ve earned
his first stakes victory.
“It was wasted on the allowance race,” Baffert said of the performance. “It’s a shame we had all that rain.”
Out of Dayjur mare Renfro Valley Star, Fast Bullet won his 3rd race in 4 career starts, and the only blemish made was the sixth place finish in the Grade 1 Xpressbet Breeders’ Cup Sprint at Santa Anita Park, where he finished 6th on
3 November, 2012.
Fast Bullet, started his racing career on 9 October last year and defeated maidens at first attempt, and then went on to win an Allowance race at Betfair Hollywood Park.
In his fourth career start, Fast Bullet under jockey Martin Garcia set the early pace, and clocked the opening quarter mile in 22.73 seconds, and half-mile in the 45.72 seconds.
Throughout he led by a length, even by half-mile, but he changed it all in the final furlong, cutting away from the field further and further away to post a massive victory.
