I'm 15 years old, I'm 5 feet 9, and I'm 125 pounds. I know this is unhealthy, but i have eaten fast food everyday for the past 2 years. When I swim, I always have to catch my breathe after even a simple set and i was wondering if it is because of the fast food that i eat, if so then can you give some suggestions on what is good to eat. (I have recently stopped this fast food diet)

  1. The fast food diet is definitely not helping you out. You can eat fast food but not all the time. Fruit and veg are a good place to start. Before I swim i eat flapjack which gives me loads of energy. The main thing is to carry on swimming and eventually you will become fitter and be able carry out tougher sets

  2. You must eat some vegetables and fruits!!!

  3. I truly do not know how you have been able to swim for so long with that diet. Diet affects swimming tremendously. Not only do you need to eat healthier by means of vegitables and fruits and so on, but you need to eat the right things at the right time. You need to be eating something atleast 30 minutes after you workout and you need to be properly fueling your body before the work out. Carbs, like bread and pasta, are great to burn energy off of, and protein is great to build your muscle back up after the practice. Honestly, a fast food diet will not allow you to excel at any sport, especially swimming as it requires everything you have.

  4. Junk food effects ever;ything you do, your learning, sport and growth.  If you can get a sensible healthy diet, you will improve in all areas of your life.  Make a plan to eat a sensible healthy diet, cereal (not sugar laden!), lunch - fish, chicken salad or veg and a good dinner meat/fish/ vegetables and carbs ie; potatoes, rice, or pasta.

If you snack on fruit and swop fizzy drinks for water/milk and a fruit juice this will also help.

If you can cut out the high fat foods and up the fruit and veg plus continue to swim you will notice that you feel much better, and your split times should come down too.

    Good luck.
