Fast Runner??

Ok I have never actaully been a "runner" but now I just made high school cheerleading and on our first practice I know that we have to run only like a mile. I want to be able to run this without like stopping or walking, and i also want to run it pretty fast.

Can I have some tips on how to be a faster runner?

And if I run everyday will that improve my time and speed?

If so how long should I run everyday?

thanks♥

  1. First off congrats on making the cheer squad!

I was never a runner either, I started out doing run/walking  I would run for 5 minutes then walk for 1, then each week I would increase the run minutes 6 minutes then walk 1, until I finally didn't need to walk anymore.  I now run marathons (26.2 miles) almost completely without walking.  Everyone walks when running that distance usually through aid stations.

Anyway you can totally learn to love running and get good at it.

Running intervals and running hills are the best way to get fast.

Yes, the more you run the easier it gets, but cross training and strength core training is just as important.

I am currently training for a marathon and I run 5 times per week.

I would start out with running 30 - 45 mins, increase as you feel stronger.

Check out runner's world magazine they have a website and it has a link for high school runners http://www.runnersworld.com.  They have a beginners section as well as a high school runner section.  All excellent information.

    GOOD LUCK!

  2. You should run everyday, but take the weekends off.  Give yourself a rest.  And every time you go running, try to go longer, or farther without stopping.  Even if it's 30 sec, or 50 feet.  If you want to be able to do the mile, try to run for 10 min to start out, and then in a week or so, go for 15, and then 20.  Until you notice that you aren't as tired.  Good luck!

  3. yes running every day will improve your time and you should run for 20-30 or if you can go farther go for 40 min

  4. Congratulations on making the cheer leading team!

To get faster as a runner, you need to determine what distance you want to get faster at. It sounds like you want to have a faster mile time.

The mile is 4 times around a quarter-mile track.

Since you say you haven't done much running in the past, I'd suggest you:

    Idea #1:

practice jogging one lap, and then walking one lap. Then jog another lap, and then walk another lap. If you still feel pretty good, do that again (jog one, walk one).

    Idea #2:

Just do a slow jog for the entire 4 laps and finish with a 1-lap walk.

    Idea #3:

Jog 2 laps, walk one lap. Repeat.

Idea #4: Practice a combination of all 3 ideas.

As you get stronger, you can just go for jogs of 2-5 miles 3 times per week.

As you get faster, RUN one lap at desired per-mile-pace, and then JOG one lap. Then repeat until you have RUN 4 laps.

    Good luck.

    Here's a great cheer:

    How funky is your chicken?

    How loose is your goose?

    Come on everybody,

    and shake your caboose!
