Fast fin setup on a surfboard?

i was wondering if a twin fin or a tri fin setup is faster? i read somewhere that the more surface area in the water creates more drag but i am not very sure.

It is true that increased surface area equals increased drag. The speed lost due to drag can be compensated for by the angle of attack on the leading edge of the fins. Now, since I don't have that good of a grasp on physics and hydrodynamics, I'd be lying if I gave you much more information that that.

There are lots of people out there with opinions, but in reality, almost all fin manufacturers scientifically design their fins and all of the big names make very efficient fins. Twin fins are scientifically faster in the turn, but as for going straight down the line, you better get the calculations from a physicist.
