Question:

Faster connection? Linux vs. Vista.

If I connect an outside device (it's an XBOX 360), to my computer via ethernet cable in order to share the wireless signal, is there any reason that the connection would be faster, have less lag, or in any way better if I used Ubuntu (Linux) instead of Windows Vista? Does the simpler operating system mean less interruption, even if I'm leaving the computer unused?

  1. It wouldn't make a noticeable difference. Unless the device is accessing the internet, there shouldn't be much unnecessary traffic unless your sharing files over the LAN.

  2. Actually Linux will do a much better job at it.

Also using Linux means you do not have to worry about viruses at all
