Thatgamecompany has announced that not only has their latest title become the fastest-selling title on the PlayStation Store but that they will also release the soundtrack of the game as well.
The previous record for fastest-selling title on the PSN belonged to the expansion for Infamous 2, Festival of Blood, yet journey has left the DLC miles in its wake as gamers just cannot seem to get enough of the unique experience that Thatgamecompany has
bestowed on the world.
(Yes, we used the word ‘bestowed’ and anyone who has played the game will know why.)
Journey is the third and final PlayStation exclusive title by the studio that are now free to publish games on any platform of their choosing as their three game deal with Sony has expired. The studio was also know for its work on Flower and Flow, both of
which garnered a cult following.
According to the co-founder of the California based studio, Jenova Chen, the response from fans following the release of Journey has been something they never expected.
Chen pointed out that the studio “received more letter from fans in the two weeks since Journey’s launch than we did for Flower over the past three years.”
The developer also acknowledged the huge number of requests that had poured in for the soundtrack of the game being made available for download.
“A lot of you have seemed to really enjoy the music in the game, which was composed by Austin Wintory. And we’ve received a lot of requests to release the soundtrack of the game.”
For those fans Chen had some great news. “We’ll I’m happy to announce that the soundtrack will be hitting the PS Store and iTunes on April 11, and there will be a limited CD release in the near future as well.”
All in all, Thatgamecompany seems to have signed off on their PS3 exclusivity in style and Sony has to be wondering why they did not tie the studio down for a longer deal. However, this does not mean that the studio will not release their titles on the PlayStation
3 in the future.
