  1. Sorry but this question doesnt really deserve an answer. Look at the results of the races with the fastest times such as Secretariat and Northern Dancer and I think Monarchos as winners and see how far in front of the second place horse they were. Then convert each length to a 1/5 of a second and add that to the finishing time. Of course that might not tell you the right answer depending on the margin of victory in those races. A hard question to answer and sorry a stupid question to begin with, because no one cares who runs second except those who bet them. As far as the guy who put that Sham would have won any other Kentucky Derby easily, maybe you have forgotten that Monarchos won the derby in 159 4/5. we also dont know that the difference in the track variants may have been those days whether Secratariat and Sham ran on a bullet fast track or not so you really cant compare from year to year. To say that Sham would have won any other Derby easily though is stupid to say the least and a slap in the face to all other Derby winners at the most. Suppose Secratariats time was 159.59 and Sham was 2 1 /2 lengths back, That means Sham could possibly have run his race in as slow a time as 2.00.18 which would make his time slower than both Northern Dancers and Monarchos

  2. Sham wasn't only the fastest 2nd place horse...  he was also the 2nd fastest horse to run the Derby... ever.  In any other Kentucky Derby race, Sham would have won easily.

  3. Sham's time of 1:59 4/5 in the 1973 Kentucky Derby is the fastest runner-up ever.
