hi, i'm an incoming freshman and i just started my first year. I'm just trying to figure out how to get home and how to get back.

I tried many ways, but none of them actually fit my time.

the absolute condition is:

I can only travel on sep 9/28 after 7pm

the closest train station from Valencia is Newhall.

If Newhall is not possible, the Union Station LAX is okay. My parents can give me a ride.

you must give me way back to UCSD before monday Oct 1st

thanx ol

  1. I know San Diego doesn't have many Amtrack stations but Solona Beach Station is the closest from UCSD.  I know this because I used to work right across the street from that station and commuted from UCSD.

Instead of catching the bus, it will be better if you ask a friend or a roommate to pick you up from the station.  But if you do end up taking the bus, there are a far less stops from Solona Beach to UCSD than coming up from Old Town.  That's because no one living in those beach houses will take the bus if you were to take the Coast Highway route.

By the way, the bus should be free with your student ID.  But I don't know if you still have to get a sticker from the transportation office.

  2. you best way is probably Amtrak from either Old Town station or Downtown San Diego to LA union station,

well I check the Amtrak schedule you said you couldn't leave

    San Diego till after 7pm

Amtrak does have a bus (not a train) with departs San Diego  at 10:00pmand goes direct to newhall arriving at the Santa Clarita Metrolink station  at 2:00am in the morning

for the return trip its a bus to LA Union station departing Newhall (Santa Clarita) at 9:20am and arriving in San Diego at 1:55pm cost of your trip is about 59.00 dollars

but I have a suggestion a cheaper alternativeente

    t 11:15pm departure

return buses depart LA union station at

dep LA 7:30am, arr  SD10:00am  ;depart LA12:00p arr  2:depm, depart LA at 5;30pm arrive SD at 8:00pm and

at 9;15pm arrive San Diego at 11:30pm

currently the fare for this trip (if you had book the trip today (9/24)

    is $12.00 each way +plus a 50cent reservation fee

make it about $25.00 note the closer to the date of travel

the higher the fare will be.. (but it should a lot less

    then amtraks fare)

    good luck
