Question:

Fat french link bit?

so i'm looking for "the perfect bit" for my horse.. (you might have seen my previous question..)

usually i ride in a D ring happy mouth snaffle..

and today i tried my horse in a D ring french link with the rounded mouth piece (like this, only regular french link http://www.farmhousetack.com/Korsteel/Korsteel144263.jpg)

it was the first time in is known history he had a metal bit (though i'm sure hes be ridden in them before) and the first time it a french link, and it completly FAILED.

it was really bad, like a disconnect between my cues, and his brain.

he generally likes fat things against his lips (like, he loves his pelham (only used cross country) that is like this http://www.doversaddlery.com/jointed-rubber-pelham-horse-bit/p/X1-01310/cn/1462/ since its so fat) so i'm looking for a french link FAT snaffle-i don't really care what the "ring" is, but D or full cheak is prefered.

i've looked all over the place, but i'm having no luck..

so any suggestions?

  1. I think the best you are gonna do is to get a "happy mouth" french link.  I think that's about the fattest one they make.  I've seen some rather fat sweet iron ones too, but since he does well with that rubber pelham, I'd stay with rubber and get a happy mouth.

  2. have you tried mikmar i think they have the bit that you are looking for or sstack.com might have one. I not to sure though. Hope this helps

  3. well i used to have one but i sold it. i think i got it from Dover but i never saw them after that. but that go make them. good luck with finding him a bit.Sabrina
