I am a 4x kinda guy and as i will be getting married next year i am looking at the fun task of picking out a tux....only problem is i always feel twice as big in those tight fitting funny looking monkey suits...anyone have some tips that can help me pick out a better looking tux? What type should i look at? Does tails v.s. no tails matter? And to who ever it is that is going to say loose some weight, don't. Also, the wedding will be during the late morning with reciption over by 4pm...thanks,

Tom

  1. have a nude wedding and your problem is solved

  2. GO for a simple design, maybe a neutral color.

Grey is a nice tone to wear and a light pastel tie. something really simple.

black or navy suits could slim someone but in your case they could make you look bulky.

Don't go for the tails, just a simple tux and simple tie, no bonnet or wavy shirts.

    Also No rounded neck tie.

and if it's really hot you might also wear a same color vest so you can take off the jacket

  3. No coat tails, you want to bring the attention upwards not downwards. Adding more fabric is counteractive. Some tuxes have a satin or shiny material (still black) for the lapels and collar, this can bring the eye upwards as a point of interest. Double-breasted would probably be good, but try both types on.

  4. Hi Tom. My fiancé is also a big guy and he looks stunning in a tux IMO (but then again I'm a little biased). Also in my opinion it doesn't matter what size someone is, it just matters how they feel about themselves. Black will look more flattering then white, because black is a "slimming color". Tails rarely look flattering on anyone or any size or shape. When you go to find a tux you would probably do better in a Big & Tall Store, like Men's Warehouse, where they deal with men who have some extra meat to them everyday and can truly be honest about what is comfy for the larger man. When my fiancé got his suit we went to a Men's Warehouse and the people their were so nice and they were straight forward about what would and wouldn't look best on him. If you feel uncomfortable in tuxes or with yourself then it really won't matter how you look because your self consciousness will shine right threw.

    Good Luck and Congratulations

  5. Don't do tails, they are seldom flattering to anyone.  The tailors at the store will help you find the best fit for you.

  6. NO TAILS!  The 70s, 80s, and 90s are long gone.

You don't want something tight fitting.  You want form fitting.  It should be comfortable to move your arms, but still hugging your body.  It might be a good idea to invest in a custom suit because of your size--if you have no intentions of shrinking.  Unfortunately, 4X suits are hard to come by.  Get something made for you and then you'll have something to wear for formal occasions.  A good suit is important.

  7. Go western.  Wear a long frock coat.

Look at third pic in second row.  Also, third pic in third row.

It's the longer coat . . . looks like it comes to about the knee.

  8. Have you even checked out the rental shops yet? They will usually have your size or try and find one that will fit.  You didn't say what color, so if the the color is black you could go to the "Big Mans" shop and they can fix you right up.  You should have one done just to have for other occasions. Short would be better.  Bless you and your future wife on your marriage.
