Question:

Fatal Alert on Palm Tungsten T?

Hi,

I've recently been given my dad's old Palm and I've found it really handy with some of the brilliant software like Novii Remote and Flash Player.

But last night when I tried to open one of the programs -Chime- to configure the settings the Palm stopped and said 'Fatal Alert' and I had to reset.

I reset the Palm and the message appeared again. Every time I turn it on the same error message occurs.

The message is 'Fatal Alert Emul68K Common.c, Line:527, Odd address' what ever that means.

Can anyone help me out here?

  1. It could be that Chime has a corrupted preference file, so when you start the Tungsten T and Chime tries to schedule its next alarm, it causes the Fatal Alert.

Your best bet is to start the Palm in 'limited mode' (no applications started) and then delete Chime, and then restart normally.  You can then reinstall Chime later.

Starting a Palm OS device in a limited mode is called a "warm reset".

You do a "warm reset" like this... press and hold the UP button.  While holding the UP button, press an unfolded paperclip or other tool into the reset hole of the device.

Keep on holding the UP button down until any progress bar is finished and the logo is displayed.

Now, you can go to the Home screen, tap Menu, tap Delete... and delete Chime.

Once you've done that, do a normal reset to get the device working as normal.  A normal reset is just a paperclip in the reset hole.
