In May 2008, my dad and I are going to Europe for 3 weeks, mostly to visit his relatives in Italy (whom he has never met).
We're flying from Canada, probably to London (if it is cheaper than direct to Rome). From there we might either fly or take the train through France via Paris.
Any recommendations on what to see or do? My dad is a huge sports enthusiast, but says that going to games isn't a necessary part of the trip, he mostly wants to see where his parents were born and raised.
He also doesn't want this to be a repeat of my last few trips to Italy, but does want to see Rome.
I've been to Venice, Florence, Sorrento, Pompei, Capri, Positano and Rome in Italy. Also Annecy France, and Lisbon, Albufeira and Coimbra Portugal.
So, with three weeks (6-7 days in our family's town), where do you recommend we go, that won't be a COMPLETE repeat of my trips (though I don't mind seeing things 2x), in either England, Switzerland, France, Spain or Italy. Where should we go and what are some amazing things to see??
Note: when we go I will be 22 and he will be 53, but, although we are both overweight we are quite fit and exercise regularly, so that isn't a concern for us.
