Question:

Father & Son outing ... Need Ideas

My husband wants to take his son on a couple of day vacation/outing before school starts up.

His 17 year old son doesn't have many interests ... right now the only thing he is truly interested in his video games, video games ... oh did I mention video games ... and hanging out with his buddies ... playing more video games.

My hubby wants to do something memorable ... I honestly think he will think most ideas my husband suggests will be lame.

We live in Utah ... he loves video games ... is quiet ... smart ...

Any suggestions?? Thanks so much.

  1. That is tough. I have been to Utah a few times and I think a cave tour would be good. My brother is sort of the same as your son and he really enjoyed it. It can be a frightening experience but one you will remember and enjoy.

  2. Here are some suggestions: bike riding, bowling, going to a movie, going on a hike, golfing, batting cages, go-karts.

Definitely do not do video games!

  3. Your son needs to know the world is more than video games.  Part of that is your fault for not limiting his computer time.  Dad should take him out to nature, go camping and fishing.  Dad can buy him a small digital camera, and your son might get interested in photography.  They can go hiking, camping with either a tent or renting a cabin.  Definitely fishing, and most places rent equipment and even guides.  They can go tubing, canoeing too.  And fry the fish at the campfire.  Roast marshmallows, and they would have plenty of father-son talk time.  And make sure dad LISTENS.  They can watch the stars at night, and this time of year the shooting stars are out a lot.  They can also go to museums too.  But I think the nature route would be good, to learn about our wilderness, the birds and animals they might see.  You need to get your son off those video games and really limit his time on that.  Especially when school starts.  At his age, he should be starting to think about which college he wants to attend.  Playing video games isn't going to get him very far in life.

  4. that sounds like so much fun.

he should take your son to a comic convention, i play video games a lot and I'm a teen so I'm pretty sure he would like that.

usually comic con are only a day long so after that he should go camping i loved camping with my dad it's a wonderful thing to do.

Does your son like music they should compare music together.

  5. try going to one of those game conventions? im not sure when they are but it couldn't hurt to look some up and im pretty sure there big so it might take them say a weekend to view everything? lol

  6. if he is the average 17 year old male he wont want to do anything with his father. Usually they find them embarrasing and not cool. They are more interested in girls parties and more girls. If all he does is play video games then you should be worried he is hiding something from you.

  7. have them go to a game show or to a new game store and pick out a game together then play your heart out let your son now that not all games are bad and that u are glad he has a passion for games i hope this helps

  8. PAINTBALL!! I am kinda like your son but I will stop playing games because paintball is so fun and eryone can enjoy. look for local fields in your area. Hope this helps
