Question:

Father daughter song for wedding?

I am having my wedding in October and need a song for the father and daughter dance. He's actually my step father but has been in my life since I was 5. I call him Dad. I don't think of him as my step father but, a lot of songs talk about holding me when I was born and that really doesn't apply to us. Any ideas?

  1. don't know if you would find this appropriate for a wedding and it IS about a guy reflecting  on his stepfather.....but it fits perfectly for the situation  even the age mentioned.........another place you could look is

Brad Paisley-He didn't have to be

When a single mom goes out on a date with somebody new

It always winds up being more like a job interview

My mama used to wonder if she'd ever meet someone

That wouldn't find out about me and then turn around and run

I met the man I call my dad when I was 5 years old

He took my mom out to the movies and for once I got to go

A few months later I remember lying there in bed

I overheard him pop the question and I prayed that she'd say yes

And then, all of a sudden oh it seemed so strange to me

How we went from somethin's missin to a family

Looking back all I can say about all the things he did for me

Is I hope I'm at least half the dad

    He didn't have to be

I met the girl that's now my wife about 3 years ago

We have the perfect marrriage but we wanted somethin more

Now here I stand surrounded by my family and friends

Crowded round the nursery window and they bring the baby in

And now all of a sudden oh it seems so strange to me

How we've gone from somethin's missin to a family

Looking through the glass I think about the man that's standin next to me

And I hope I'm at least half the dad

    He didn't have to be

cuz he didnt' have to be

you know, he didn't have to be

  3. I loved her first.  A great song and even though country really touches the heart.  (My daughter just got married and it was the one she picked out for our dance)

  4. I was in the same situation, step dad really being my dad and we danced to In My Daughter's Eyes, by Martina McBride.  It's a tear jerker!

    LYRICS:

In my daughter's eyes, I am a hero.

    I am strong an' wise,

    And I know no fear.

But the truth is plain to see:

She was sent to rescue me,

I see who I wanna be, in my daughter's eyes.

In my daughter's eyes, everyone is equal,

    Darkness turns to light,

And the world is at peace.

This miracle God gave to me,

Gives me strength when I am weak.

I find reason to believe, in my daughter's eyes.

An' when she wraps her hand around my finger,

Oh, it puts a smile in my heart.

    Everything becomes a little clearer.

I realise what life is all about.

    It's hangin' on when your heart has had enough;

It's givin' more when you feel like givin' up.

I've seen the light: it's in my daughter's eyes.

In my daughter's eyes, I can see the future.

A reflection of who I am,

    An' what will be.

An' though she'll grow an', some day, leave:

    Maybe raise a family,

    When I'm gone, I hope you'll see,

    How happy she made me,

For I'll be there, in my daughter's eyes.

  6. Butterfly kisses

You are the wind beneath my wings

    Daddy little girl

What a great man to show you so much love.

    God bless your marriage.

  7. I Loved Her First by Heartland. It's so beautiful and Butterfly Kisses is a little outdated.

Look at the two of you dancing that way

Lost in the moment and each others face

So much in love your alone in this place

Like there's nobody else in the world

I was enough for her not long ago

    I was her number one

    She told me so

And she still means the world to me

    Just so you know

So be careful when you hold my girl

    Time changes everything

    Life must go on

And I'm not gonna stand in your way

But I loved her first and I held her first

And a place in my heart will always be hers

From the first breath she breathed

When she first smiled at me

I knew the love of a father runs deep

And I prayed that she'd find you someday

But it still hard to give her away

    I loved her first

How could that beautiful women with you

Be the same freckle face kid that I knew

The one that I read all those fairy tales to

And tucked into bed all those nights

And I knew the first time I saw you with her

It was only a matter of time

But I loved her first and I held her first

And a place in my heart will always be hers

From the first breath she breathed

When she first smiled at me

I knew the love of a father runs deep

And I prayed that she'd find you someday

But its still hard to give her away

    I loved her first

From the first breath she breathed

When she first smiled at me

I knew the love of a father runs deep

Someday you might know what I'm going through

When a miracle smiles up at you

    I loved her first.

I know you said it was your step dad, but the song is just so beautiful!

  8. I loved her first by Heartland

    ButteryFly Kisses by Bob Carlisle

Stealing Cinderella by Chuck Wick is my favorite!  These are the words~  Since you were five it would work perfectly!

I came to see her daddy for sit down man to man

It wasn't any secret i'd be asking for her hand

I guess that's why he left me waiting in the living room by myself

with at least a dozen pictures of her sitting on a shelf

    [Chorus;]

    She was playing Cinderella

She was riding her first bike

Bouncing on the bed and looking for a pillow fight

Running through the sprinkler with a big popsicle grin

Dancing with her dad, looking up at him

In her eyes i'm Prince Charming

But to him i'm just some fella

    riding in and stealing Cinderella

I leaned in towards those pictures to get a better look at one

When I heard a voice behind me say "Now, ain't she something, son?"

I said "Yes, she quite a woman" and he just stared at me

Then I realized that in his eyes she would always be

    Playing Cinderella

    Riding her first bike

Bouncing on the bed and looking for a pillow fight

Running through the sprinkler with a big popsicle grin

Dancing with her dad, looking up at him

In her eyes i'm Prince Charming

But to him i'm just some fella riding in and stealing Cinderella

He slapped me on the shoulder

Then he called her in the room

When she threw her arms around him

That's when I could see it too

    She was Playing Cinderella

    Riding her first bike

Bouncing on the bed and looking for a pillow fight

Running through the sprinkler with a big popsicle grin

Dancing with her dad, looking up at him

If he gives me a hard time

    I can't blame the fella

I'm the one who's stealing Cinderella
