Father of former Pakistani skipper Shahid Afridi passes away – Cricket News Update

According to Afridi’s family, his father was ill for a long time and was in a critical situation for the past few days. His funeral will be held in Karachi after the Asr prayer, in the evening.
The Pakistan cricket team had to play a complete series in West Indies soon after they returned to the country after taking part in the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/ICC-World-Cup-2011-c100625 World Cup 2011. However, Afridi had announced his unavailability back then due to the illness of his father.
Before the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) named the squad for the Caribbean tour, the veteran all-rounder revealed that he was available to lead his side in the series. He stated that his father wanted him to keep focussed on national duty.

Although the Men in Green lost the final two matches, they were still victorious in the series by a margin of 3-2. The team had to play two Test matches after the ODI and Twenty20 games, but Afridi returned to the country, as he had retired from the longest
version of the game.
On his return to Pakistan, Afridi openly criticised the team’s coach in-front of the media. This didn’t please the PCB and an inquiry was held in order to find out the details regarding the dispute between the coach and captain.
