Fatigue is part of international cricket, says Shane http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Watson-c96326 – Cricket News Update
Australia’s stand-in skipper, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/West-Indies-c760, several players are bound to be experiencing fatigue as a result of the national squad's hectic scheduling over the past six months.
“There's no doubt there's some guys that have played the whole summer who are going to be a little bit tired. But in the end, that's part and parcel of playing international cricket,” he said.
The Aussies have had a jam-packed schedule where they toured http://www.senore.com/Cricket/South-Africa-c757 in October 2011, on a tour which lasted for almost a month.
The Aussies then began their home summer by hosting the Kiwis for the Trans-Tasman Trophy in December, after which an Indian tour Down Under saw the two teams battling it out in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy (a series of 4 Test matches, which the hosts won
in a 4-0 cleans sweep).
Following all that was the recently concluded Commonwealth Bank series, where the Aussies battled the Men In Blue and Sri Lanka – beating the latter in the best of three finals.
However, it doesn’t stop there for the team, and the hectic programming continues during their Windies tour, as the visitors face off against the hosts on March 16 for a 5-match ODI series which has been squeezed into just 10 days.
Despite the obvious lack of respite, Watson claims that the busy routine is to be expected, and players need to find ways to maintain their strength and form, in order to give their best for the team in every match.
“You are playing just about all year round, and you've got to find ways to be able to freshen up whenever you possibly can and to be able to keep doing everything you can to stay as fresh as you can to be able to perform,” he said.
The all-rounder, who will be filling in as captain in the limited-overs leg of the tour, as regular skipper http://www.senore.com/Cricket/MJ-Clarke-c1978 recovers from a hamstring strain in his left leg, admitted that he had no fatigue issues, and was “very fresh after missing the majority
of the summer” owing to a calf injury of his own.
He also shared that he was enjoying his chance at captaining the national side, and was looking forward to playing more cricket.
