Fatigue no excuse for England’s defeats: Ian Bell
England’s middle order batsman Ian Bell has adamantly ruled out the possibility of fatigue behind the slump in the form of his team.
England are in Australia taking part in a seven-match ODI series after their superb triumph in the Ashes series. However, the form that they had during the Ashes seems to have disappeared because the visitors lost the first two
matches of the Commonwealth Bank Series by playing like a bunch of amateurs.
Bell, who had a great Ashes run, was of the opinion that fatigue should not be considered as the reason behind the poor performance of his team. “I don't think anyone should be feeling fatigue. We've a big World Cup so we have
to get our game right."
Bell, who scored 23 runs in the first ODI at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) and 32 in Hobart, stressed that his teammates needed to return to their winning form because a good ODI form in the ongoing series in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746 would
prepare them for the International Cricket Council (ICC) World Cup 2011, jointly hosted by http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Bangladesh-c747 next month.
The English batsman rebuffed the rumours that some players were eagerly awaiting the end of the long Australian tour so that they could head back to their families. “There's no point thinking of home because we've only got three
days at home. The more one-day cricket you can get in the better prepared you are going to be for a World Cup.” Bell said.
The http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Warwickshire-c862 batsman reiterated that as professional cricketers, players have to be prepared for lengthy tournaments. Talking to the media, he said, “It has been a long trip but you expect that as a cricketer. In international
cricket you are going to spend a lot of time away from home, it just comes with the job, so you should be used to it.”
Bell believed that the players had let themselves down in the first two games and did not perform to the fullest of their abilities. He felt that England were not far behind the hosts and only needed to improve minor details of
execution in the remaining matches of the series.
After England’s heroic performance in the Ashes, the team was dubbed as the second favourites to lift the World Cup trophy by many cricket pundits. Unfortunately, their performance in the ODI series so far suggests that they are
not a force to reckon with in the 50-over format of the game.
