or browsing the web.,can someone help, the only problem I have

is with my lannd line phone when I try to call out , when I'm off line

sounds like a fax , then just disconnects.the phone company

thought it was my digital answer machine so I turned it off, then

  1. It sounds like your carrier needs to send out a technician to further troubleshoot your problem. Call them and open a trouble report. Good luck.

  2. If you have an extrenal Modem, turn it off.

  3. Disconnect everything from the phone lines except just the one good telephone.  Disconnect the PC modem too from the phone line.  Only have the one telephone (in the whole house) plugged into the telephone jack.  Then see if you still have the problem.

As last resort, locate the Telco demarcation box where the line enters the house.  Unplug internal lines from the demarc jack and only plug in your one known-good telephone to the demarc jack.  This will now be a direct line to the outside with nothing else in house connected.  If the problem still persists after this test.... the problem needs to be investigated by your Telco provider.
