Fausto Gresini says he hopes to sign a new contract with Alvaro Bautista – MotoGP news
Fausto Gresini, manager of San Carlo Honda Gresini has admitted that they had talks with Scott Redding of Marc VDS Racing team and Ben Spies of Yamaha Factory Racing but he hopes to continue with the same set up as they had in the current season by signing
a new contract with Alvaro Bautista.
He said that they have not defined their plans for the next year yet, but he can say that he is happy with Bautista and wants to continue with him.
Gresini said, “At this time we have not yet defined our plans for next year. I can say that I am very happy with Alvaro and I am not hiding the fact that I would like to continue with him.”
He said that he respects the Spanish rider and believes that he has great potential. He added that he does not want to give a rider just one year because it is a short time.
Furthermore, he said that there are uncertainties in the market and it is difficult to judge the future but their goal is to carry on with the project they have started in the current season.
“I do not like to give a rider just one year, because it would be limiting. It is clear that in the market it is difficult to know what will happen, but the goal is to carry out the project that started this season, which I care a lot about,” he said.
Gresini said that it is important to keep the options open and a team cannot rely on only one rider. He added that the riders keep their options open and so do teams.
Moreover, he said that they had talks with Spies and Scott Redding, but the team has not decided anything yet.
Redding is riding for Marc VDS Racing team and has not started his MotoGP career yet, Whereas, Spies has announced that he will not be riding for Yamaha in the following 2013 season.
Bautista has not been able to make it to any place on the podium in his MotoGP career. Let us see will Gresini be able to continue with the same setup in the next 2013 season or not.
