Fauzi Adnan outshines Rizky Antasari in quarter-finals of 2013 Victor Walikota Surabaya Cup
Men’s Singles player Fauzi Adnan played impeccable badminton and marched into the semi-final round of Victor Walikota Surabaya Cup on Wednesday, May 08, 2013.
He toppled a young but talented shuttler Rizky Antasari in a 35-minute tussle. He took just two games to conclude this encounter with favourable result of 21-17 and 21-10.
Initially, Fauzi was bit sluggish and this passive approach allowed his challenger to rule the court in the establishing rallies of first set.
However, he geared up himself when it was needed the most and finished this match in a commendable manner.
He raised his chances of success by prevailing in few back-to-back rallies just before the one-minute interval. This flurry of productive strokes proved a real booster for his confidence and he played with great conviction in next few rallies.
Fauzi did not play even a single loose shot and piled up a decent total before the announcement of break.
After the one-minute interval, he pushed his rival in all areas of the court and his unbeatable strategy fetched many vital points for him.
However, it was not an easy road to victory as Rizky put some resistance and brought the contest to right balance. He bagged few back-to-back points in third quarter of the set and added some thrill in the game.
At this stage, Fauzi showed a strong character in pressure situation and reinstated his dominance. He placed a winning margin of 21-17 and gained a psychological advantage before the second set.
Lot of fireworks was expected in the next game but it proved a dead contest. Rizky hardly showed any resistance and crashed out of the event in a disgraceful manner.
On the other hand, Fauzi did not repeat previous mistakes and served the notice of his potential in this crucial game.
He laid foundation of his supremacy straight away in the beginning and maintained that upper hand all the way to game point situation.
He finished first half of the set with a respectable figure of 11 and then sealed a splendid win with 21-10 score on the board.
With this triumph he qualified for the semi-finals where Febryan Irvannaldi is ready to take on him.
