What are your fav. books that a 7 year old boy could read on his own or with little help?

He will be going into second grade next year and I want him to be prepared.. any ideas or suggestions to help him be ready?

He will be going to summer school too.. but that is only one week a month...

  1. When my son was that age we would read Aurthur the Aardvark books by scholastic they are made for grades 1st-4th

  2. My son loves Diary of A Wimpy Kid and Diary of a Wimpy Kid Rodderick Rules.  My son is 7 and is also going into 2nd grade.  He loved these books and even joined a book club at school because of them.  He read them on his own and would tell me everything that happened.  They are actually really funny books too.  Hopefully this helped.  Any of the Magic Treehouse books are great too.

  3. Henry and Mudge

  4. Try the Ricky Ricotta series by Dav Pilkey or the Stink series by Megan McDonald.

  5. I bought my son the Junie B. Jones box set.  He laughed out loud and still talks about her 2 years later like she is someone that he really knows.

I used to teach second grade and those kids love Junie B., too.

I must say that even if he can read it on his own, children love to be read to.  Whatever you choose to get for him to read on his own, if you curl up with him and read part of it to him, maybe 10 minutes a day, it will benefit you both in lots of ways.  You can know what he is reading and ask him questions about it...plus it is fun to snuggle and read with your children.

  6. Cat in the Hat really great book!!!=DI read it....and im still in 4th grade im 10 and im about to read shakespeare...My grandma just taught me and i read cat in the hat..Dr suess inspires children to read..To say its fun and u learn at the same time..If u read Cat in the Hat the kid will get straight a's....On some days let him read geography books...Sometimes even comics or anime...To tell comics and anime or manga helps too..it inspires new words...But limit that it could get addicting to tell u..

  7. well he might like the dr seuss series my sister is 5 and thats how she wants t olearn to read some books have a reading level on them like level 1 is for kindergarten and firstgrade level 2 is seson and third grade

  8. Absolutely depends on his reading level. Some seven year olds can barely read a few single words, others are reading Harry Potter.

If he's a reluctant reader, try fact books rather than stories. Often boys are more tempted to read about dinosaurs and monster trucks than about Tommy and Susie at school.

  9. make sure to take him to the library.  The librarian there is trained and eager to answer this question and can ask him a few good questions and help.  plus the kids love the fact that they can check out basically as much as they like.  I try to go every week and the kids really get into reading a wide range of books.

oh-- and try Trumpeter of the Swans by White and Are all the Giants Dead by Dahl.  If they are not read on his own at this level you can read them to him.  Easier books would be George and Martha or Henry and Mudge books.  both easy chapter books.

  10. My daughter loves the "Puppy Place" books.  They are about a brother and a sister who find stray puppies and find them homes.  Each book is about 75 to 80 pages.  I would think they would appeal to a boy or a girl reader. I couldnt get her interested in any other series until I found these!

  11. Depends on his reading level.....

Magic Tree House series are great.
