  1. ArmNHammer multi-cat here too, I have 3 cats, no liners one is diabetic so she her urine can get sticky and stick to the box.  I have a alpine air purifier on low above the box.. I have a less than 1000 sq foot townhouse, this is a MUST!!!

  2. 1) ArmNHammer multi-cat.

    2) Just regular.

    3) No liners.

    4) No lids, use the large plastic storage boxes.

    5) No, but I've been wanting to get another one.

    6) Own our home and the litter boxes are at the end of the hallway.

  3. I fostered 5 orphaned kittens and found that fresh step so far has been the best. I don't use baking soda but might try it and I don't use liners.

I have a walk in litter box (the kind with the lid and the front opening and also recently got a large rubbermaid type  tub with a lid and cut a hole in the top, this is far superior to the walk in kind as well as cheaper than the designer ones you get at the pet stores for five times the cost.

Don't have a mat or rug either and I keep one in the bath room and one by the back door in my house.

  4. here's what i do:  we have the large sized litterbox with the roof thing.  i do not buy the liner-bags, just get generic kitchen sized trashbags, they are cheaper per bag and do just as well.  i use fresh step, it really is the best, odor wise, but if tidy cats is on sale, i'll use it.  i do use the arm & hammer stuff on occasion if needed.  i have a mat in front of the entrance.  a regular cheap plastic front door rug works really well (the kind that has the spikey bristles) or look in the pet section for litter mats.  our litter box is by our washer and dryer.

i actually prefer the rocky litter, I change it once per week unless needed sooner, by throwing out bag and all the contents and starting over fresh, new bag and litter.  also, the roof on the box helps tremendously, looks better, and gives the cat some privacy. lol.  also try indoor formula cat food, it helps a bit.

  5. 1. the brand i use is called Feline Fresh, and it's a pine litter. it has a WONDERFUL pine scent, clumps really well, and is flushable and biodegradable. it also lasts longer than clay litter, and isn't dusty. i definitely recommend it.

    2. when i used clay litter, i used baking soda sometimes and yes it does work. but i've switched to my pine litter and dont need the baking soda :)

    3. nope

    4. it came with one, but i (as well as my cat) prefers the box without it. it lets the box air out and its easier to just walk up to it and clean without having to take the lid off

    5. yes :) but its not really important, and she usually steps out of the side of the box, not the front where the mat is :P but when I used the clay litter it did help. once again, using the pine litter, it doesnt really track so the rug isn't really needed.

    6. I don't, but i will be living in one sometime near the end of this year perhaps. the box can go in the bathroom, or the kitchen, or just somewhere by a window i suppose :)

I strongly suggest using a pine litter. The litterbox is currently in my bedroom (the room is very tiny unfortunately) and I can't smell it all :)

good luck and i wish you all the best :D

  6. 1.what is your favorite litter?

Tidy Cats in the blue 27lb. box.  We've tried most all of them, and while I like Fresh Step, it's a little more expensive and the perfume tends to make me sneeze after a while.  The Tidy Cats for Multi-Cats in the blue box has proven time and again to be the best for the money and for our large cat family.

2.do you use arm and hammer baking soda for pets or just regular to help with odor, and if so - does it work?

Yes.  We tried the Arm and Hammer baking soda additive for a short time and one of my cats became allergic to it.  We stopped using it, she got better and I haven't used any perfume additives to the boxes since.

3.do you use liners for your boxes?

We did years ago when we had our first cat.  She would dig so deep into the pan that she always tore a hole in it, or pawed it loose from around the edge and into the pan and made a huge mess.  They ended up being a waste of time and money for us so I've never used them again.

4.do you have lids on your boxes?

I have a mix of both.  I also have a top loading litter pan that I just love and will one day switch out more of our boxes to top loading pans.

5.do you have a mat or rug or anything in front of the box to help with mess?

We have an extra large Rubbermaid chair mat under (that I purchased through a business supply store) our litter boxes.  Being a multi-cat family, and having several boxes and several cats that kick litter out of even the lidded pans it makes for easier sweep up as well as being able to mop the chair mat as often as needed daily.

6.do you live in an apt, and if so where do you keep your box?

House, no apartment.  Here the cats have a room of their own for their needs.

so far i use small spaces tidy cat scoop but i want some more information, i feel like no matter what i do or use, i can smell the litter lately! help!?!

I used that Small Spaces Tidy Cat and loved it for the longest time.  I loved the citrus scent.  But after a while it seemed like the perfume really just started bothering me.  As I said above, I switched back to the Tidy Cats in the blue box for Multi-Cats (you might try the Tidy Cats Crystal Blend I like it for one cat, it's too expensive for mulit-cats) and it's been the best for our money and works well for the cats.

  7. My preference is Fresh Step and I live in a 2 floor house, 3000sq feet and I keep one litter box in my downstairs powder room and the second one in my upstairs den which also serves as a guest bedroom.  I do no use liners nor do I have a cover.  I have the typical litter pan, med-large in size and I clean it twice a day.  I also add fresh litter once a week and once a month, I empty the entire litter box and start fresh.  I have not had one problem and when I begin to smell it despite my twice a day cleaning, I know then it is time to dump it all.  I do not have a mat or rug in front of either box and so I must sweep at least once a day.  I also mop the powder room floor once a day and vacuum the area around the upstairs litter box once a day. I tried the Arm and Hammer and did not like it. I have also tried Tidy Cat and Scoop Away.  They were satisfactory.
