I'm looking for a vegetarian cookbook that uses mostly everyday foods (I can't afford anything like seitan, etc, nor do I have time to look for it!). Ideas? TIA!

  1. vegan with a vengeance by Chandra Moskowitz she also has an online vegan cooking show. the site is theppk.com

also check out the dvd Vegan Cooking for Animal Lovers with the Hardcore Chef- it's all pretty cheap stuff

it's all vegan, but you can add to it i guess

  2. I use The Vegetarian Cookbook.  It's really my favorite, I've almost completely stopped using my other vegetarian cookbooks.

The only thing with this (and really I guess this goes for all recipes) is that you have to add your own spices to give it flavor because some of the recipes are kind of bland on their own.

One good thing about this book is that you can take a lot of the recipes and alter them for the ingredients that you have in your house currently.

  3. I like the books by Sarah Kramer and Tanya Barnard:

    How It All Vegan!

    The Garden Of Vegan!

    La Dolce Vegan!

If those have too many hard-to-find items, pick up a copy of the "Student's Vegetarian" Cookbook by Carole Raymond.

The "Vegetarian Meat and Potatoes Cookbook" by Robin Robertson is awesome.  There are some recipes that call for seitan but there is also a recipe of how to make seitan at home using common ingredients.

  4. Go here for a really good cookbook!

    http://www.vitalita.com/cookbooks.html

and go down a little to under the book cover that says a taste of vitality and under it says download just click there and download it its super good food and stuff!

  5. Native Foods Cookbook

  6. I like using vegcooking.com.

Not really a cookbook, but it has awesome recipes!

  7. I mainly go on sites to get recipes. Good cookbooks are eganomicon, Vegan Cupcakes Take Over the World, The Ultimate Uncheese Cookbook, Vegan Planet,  Eat, Drink, & Be Vegan, The Joy of Vegan Baking, The Mediterranean Vegan Kitchen, The New Farm Vegetarian Cookbook , & Vegan with a Vengeance.

Seitan is rather cheap if you make it yourself.

  8. I use regular cookbooks and just find a good replacement for the meat in the recipe.  Mushrooms, eggplant etc. are great substitutes
