Favourites dazzle in A2 races at Swindon
When a heavily favoured contender who is expected to win delivers the desired result, the race favourite becomes everyone’s favourite. In a pair of 480m A2 races held during an exciting
afternoon at the Swindon Greyhound Stadium, two favourites delighted many with their great wins.
The first A2 race saw 5-2 favourite Tonetta Hill bound out of trap four and race to a great finish of 29.07 seconds. After massing the middle, she soon led to claim the top spot in fine
form. Finishing in second place was Dance Izzy (6-1), who ran on to a 29.21 finish that placed her 1¾ behind the favourite.
Penskey Rain (3-1) took the number three position in 29.33 after crowding first and second. Despite the early issues, he was only 1½ lengths behind Dance Izzy. The fourth-place finisher
was Hurricane Gold (3-1), who had a clear run after going wide. His time of 29.43 seconds placed him 1¼ lengths out of a possible top-three finish.
The long shot on 9-2 odds in this race was Nice One Rex. His finish in the fifth spot was not a nice one, as he crowded both the first bend and second. He completed the race in 29.61,
which was 2¼ lengths behind Hurricane Gold. Carriglad Pio (6-1) claimed last place after crowding first and second. He was 3 lengths out of fifth place in 29.85.
Like Tonetta Hill before him, Cashen Noel picked up a win in the second of three A2 races on the schedule. When he emerged from trap three, the 2-1 favourite soon led after crowding third.
But he was rewarded for his persistence with a 29.41 second finish that gave him first place. Freedom Brave locked up second place, finishing just a ½ length behind the winner. After bumping first and crowding third, he ran on to finish in 29.45.
Pretty State (7-2) looked pretty good in third place after crowding third. She finished a head’s length behind second place with a time of 29.46. Zider Dee (5-1) placed fourth after going
wide and bumping first. His finishing time of 29.54 was a single length out of the top three.
Fifth place belonged to Bakabanba (4-1), who finished the race in 29.58 after bumping first and crowding fourth. Only a ½ length separated him from Zider Dee. Tictac Butterfly (7-1) had
to settle for a sixth-place finish after bumping first and crowing fourth. She finished in 29.80, 2¾ lengths out of fifth place.
The next race meeting at Swindon Greyhound Stadium will be held on Saturday, 23 October. The first race of the evening is called for 19:25.
