Favre Denies Reports, Decision Will Come Down to Health
Did you really think the Brett Favre saga would end that easily? If so then you were sadly mistaken.
Just one day after multiple sources from the Minnesota Vikings reported that Favre had informed teammates that he would not be returning for a 20th season, Favre denied the reports, saying he has not yet decided.
Favre also went on to say that money would not be a factor in him returning. The 40-year old quarterback in fact said that he will return to the Vikings if his ankle heals properly.
Favre has an appointment with Dr James Andrews next week, the doctor who performed the ankle surgery in May.
There were reports that the Vikings are willing to offer Favre a raise if he returns but Favre simply stated: “"It's not about money.”
Bus Cook, Favre’s agent further commented on his client’s status. "As far as Brett is concerned, in spite of reports to the contrary, Brett's situation has nothing to do with his contract, but everything to do with his health and ability to contribute to that team and play at a level that he has been accustomed to playing over the years," Cook said.
Both sides have even discussed a possible timeline as to when Favre will officially make his decision. That is probably why Coach Brad Childress was not buying any reports that Favre was retiring. He said nothing was decided yet and called the situation “fluid”.
The raise the Vikings offered Favre was an extra $3 million guaranteed and another $4 million in incentives which would bring the total to a possible $20 million if he returns this season.
Commissioner Roger Goodell is waiting to hear Favre’s side in all this: "We haven't heard from Brett, so we're all reacting to media reports. So I think I'd wait and hear what Brett has to say."
Goodell even referred to Favre as being “great for our game” but he also stated: "I think we all love to see him play, but we want him to do what's best for him at the end of the day."
Many think that Favre is possibly delaying a decision until training camp ends. Last year he initially said no to the Vikings, but changed his mind after training camp ended. Childress even picked him up from the airport.
Favre is coming off a great season and his return may determine whether or not the Vikings are a Super Bowl calibre team. So just relax and wait. Enjoy this ride and find some entertainment in the Brett Favre soap opera.
