Favre hurt again as Patriots beat Vikings
Even with a broken ankle Brett Favre turned out to play for the Minnesota Vikings against the New England Patriots on Sunday afternoon.
Sadly the 41-year-old couldn’t lead his team to victory and had to leave the game in the fourth quarter after a hit to the chin which required eight stitches. It wasn’t even the quarterbacks who took the limelight.
New England’s BenJarvus Green-Ellis had a career day at Gillette Stadium rushing for 112 yards with two touchdowns as the Patriots claimed their sixth win of the season beating the Vikings 28-18.
Despite leaving the game in the fourth Favre thought he played well.
"I really can't complain, although I probably should. I have a broken foot. I have eight stitches in my chin. I've had tendinitis in my elbow, but I threw it as well as I have all season,” Favre said.
Randy Moss, who was returning to New England after being traded to the Vikings a month ago, was only targeted twice during the whole game. New England defended the wide receiver closely all game shutting the one-time Patriot down.
"I miss every last helmet in that locker room, coach Belichick gave me a chance to be a part of something special, and I take that to heart,” Moss said.
Danny Woodhead scored New England’s first touchdown in the second quarter with a three-yard run after Adrian Peterson had given Minnesota the lead. After a field goal from the Vikings had given Minnesota the lead Tom Brady found Brandon Tate for a 65-yard score and his first career touchdown reception.
Brady scrambled away from the rush, spun to avoid another defender and threw it downfield to find Tate.
"I just caught a glimpse of him as I spinned out of it and he was open. It was great to see the back of his jersey, running. That was pretty sweet,” Brady said.
Then it was Ellis-Green’s turn to get in on the scoring, first with a 13-yard run in the third and then a two-yard run in the fourth to cancel out Minnesota’s touchdown by Naufahu Tahi.
