Ok, I KNOW that the Packers have this stipulation in their agreement with the Jets that if they trade Favre to the Vikes they have to give the Packers 3 first round draft choices, my question is what if the Jets trade him to San Diego for example, and then San Diego trades him to the Vikes? It doesn't have to be San Diego, its just the first team that I thought of. I've had that question for awhile. Thanks.

  1. The only people that could answer that (and actually know what they are talking about) are the people who have actually seen the contract. But generally speaking, NFL teams have to deal together all the time and they wouldn't do something as provocative as that because they never know when they will need another deal from the other team in a trade in the future.

  2. If the contract stipulates that Favre cannot be traded to specific teams without incurring a penalty I think the Jets would be cutting their own throat if they essentially made such a trade through a 3rd party.

It would not only affect future dealings with Green Bay but with other teams, as well, since Jets management would be viewed as shady or dishonest. Because of this, I seriously doubt whether or not such a trade stipulation exists. Including one would imply Green Bay viewed Jets management as less the honest.

Your scenario also ignores the reason the Jets made the trade: To put fannies in the seats and sell season tickets for the nice, new stadium they're building. The Jets led by Clemens or Pennington are a .500 team at best. The Jets with a future HOFer running the offense--even a future HOFer whose skills are in decline--the Jets are maybe a 9-7 team, plus by watching Favre in action Clemens can learn to throw INTs and look like a HOFer while doing it.

  3. I resepct your question, and I mean this with the upmost of sincerety when I post this, but I am really starting NOT to care what happens to Brett Favre anymore.  He stood not only as one of the greatest quarterbacks to ever play the game, but a symbol of loyalty and HEART.  Now?  Now he's just another egotistical football player who thinks he's bigger than the game of football.  And it's sad to see that a football GOD like Favre is human after all.  If his father were alive today he'd be kicking Brett's asss.  But I guess this is what happens when you lose your moral compass.

  4. Interesting question.  This is definitely a "what if" situation.  I'm not sure what the answer is...

  5. As far as I understand the stipulation the Jets would have to forfeit 3 first round picks if they traded Favre to the Vikings, I doubt there would be a penalty other then harder trade dealings if they chose to trade him to another team who would then trade him to Minnesota, if they did decide to do this however they would be doing a great dis-service to not only their fans but Favre, like him or not he has being working his tail off to learn the offense of the Jets and he (along with the other off-season acquisitions) makes this team a legitimate wild-card contender, why would they want to give that up.

  6. Yeah they could do that and stay in the confines of the contract but there is no way it would happen. #1 Its too close to the regular season, #2 vikings have appointed Tarvaris as their starter, #3 Favre is looking far to good out in New York to be moved. The Jets have already traded away Chad Pennington, so the idea of losing Favre isn't appealing to them right now. It is possible for next year, but its too elaborate of a scheme to ever be realistic in something as secure as NFL trades.

  7. A better question would be "Who is going to start when he's traded?". You see where I'm going with this? They've already let Pennington go. Which means they have no other qb's except back ups. And "San Diego" isn't going to trade Rivers to the Jets for Favre knowing that he's going to Minnesota because it would put them in the same situation. Although I don't think its against the rules or they would be penalized for it I think the odds of it happening now are all but impossible Maybe before the Pennington trade but not now.

And a question for Drew. Why did you get on here to answer this question if it was to only bash Favre? You said you respected his question but did nothing to answer it. You also said it was sad to see a God like Favre be human. And then went so far as to question his morals! My haven't we become judgmental! It's easy to put your own thoughts and beliefs into another mans head when you have no idea what that man is thinking! Where are your morals?

No Ruthinia, I understand that too. I was also just using them as an example. It could be any team. No team is going to trade their starter for Favre and the Jets are not going to take anyone but a starter. Thats all I was saying.
